CHARACTERS

SARA PEZZINI
Once a generation a woman is chosen by the Witchblade, an arcane, sentient weapon, to be it's bearer. NYPD homicide detective Sara Pezzini is this generation's chosen one. Through her gruesome line of work, Sara has seen her share of strange characters and violent scenes, but since bonding with the Witchblade, she's seen things that go beyond this world. Whether she's being hunted by evil, billionaire Kenneth Irons and his dashingly handsome but deadly henchmen, Ian Nottingham, or being toyed with by an otherwordly, malicious entity, Sara's world has been turned upside down. It seems that every villain out there wants to control her and, thereby, the Witchblade itself.
A second generation police officer, Sara's father, Vincent Pezzini, was killed in the line of duty when Sara was just a child. She has spent the rest of her life trying to prove herself to the ghost of her father, and the Witchblade's complications aren't making things any easier.

IAN NOTTINGHAM
Ian Nottingham believes in the power of the human will and that through sheer force of will almost anything can be accomplished. Ian also has the belief that all life is chaos and that the control of life is fleeting at best. These beliefs have proven themselves time and again throughout his life. His feelings for Sara Pezzini and his life of debt owed to Kenneth Irons are always in conflict. An assassin and murderer, yet a man in a consistent search for honor, Ian has not had an easy life. Now, in the possession of the weapon known as Excalibur, Ian is forced to struggle even harder to control that life. A weapon of unbelievable power, in the hands of a man already known for incredible abilities, the potential for greatness abounds. But will Ian chose a path similar to that of Sara Pezzini, or will he follow his former master Kenneth Irons down a darker road? It is a choice only Ian can make, but a choice that will affect the world.

KENNETH IRONS
Kenneth Irons is one of the ten richest men in the world, but that is not the focus of his life. Nor is the focus the way he made that money: drug trafficking, prostitution, slavery, and weapons production. Kenneth's true passion, his one obsession, his very reason for living, is the Witchblade.
This all began in the late 1800's when, while on an archeological dig in Greece, Kenneth Irons discovered the Witchblade gauntlet. Curiosity about the mystical artifact soon led to a quest for knowledge, which would later become a true obsession with the Witchblade, and controlling the power it holds. Keeneth Irons has researched every bearer of the Witchblade, read every ancient tome that might refer to its capabilities,and attempted to find that one person whom it would accept, and reveal its secrets to. Since Sara Pezzini has been revealed to be that person, Irons has turned his obsession onto her. His dreams to control the bearer of the Witchblade have not yet come true, but with all the money and power behind him, Kenneth Irons is confident that victory will soon be in his grasp. For him it is not a matter of if; but just a question of when.
Update: Kenneth Irons died in Witchblade #75 and no longer appears in the series.

THE WITCHBLADE
The Witchblade is part of an elemental triarchy composed of the Darkness, the Witchblade and the Angelus. The Witchblade represents a cosmic fulcrum between the powers of darkness and light. Its moods range from passivity, to benevolence, to a violent blood lust that can overcome a weakwilled bearer. Sara, though extremely strong in spirit, has often struggled with this feral nature.
The appearance and function of the Witchblade are also multi-faceted. It manifests as an amorphous blade that can reshape itself based on the will of its bearer and has taken on many forms through the generetions. It can project blasts of eldritch energy as well as create a serpentine web or armor to protect its host.

JAKE MCCARTHY
Jake McCarthy has been Sara's homicide partner since the death of her first partner, Michael Yee, at the scene where the Witchblade bonded itself to her. Though Jake appeared to be somewhat secretly enamoured of Sara for many years, he ultimately became involved with Sara's sister, Julie, who had always had a penchant for getting in trouble. Upon realizing that Julie was bahaving strangely, Jake followed his hunch and trailed Julie after one of her many strange, late night exits. Fortunately, he was able to intervene when her drug delivery went awry and she was attacked. Unfortunately, he then had to arrest her for drug trafficking.
Jake himself has been attacked by the Witchblade more than once. He is often caught in the crossfire when the struggle for control of the Witchblade inevitably threatens the innocent. Bizzare murders, freaks of nature and the world of the ocult make up this officer's docket, but Jake is always ready to protect his city.

JOE SIRY
Joe Siry has been a cop his whole life. It is all he has ever wanted to be and all he wants to do in the future. Joining the force as an optimistic young man in 1960, Joe learned the hard truth quickly. The truth for Joe was that the world is not black and white, but a dull shade of gray. Dealing with the criminal underworld of New York has taken joe a long way from his firm commitments to what is right and wrong. However, even through these changing times, Joe has attempted to always do what he feels is right. Joe has a long history with the father of Sara Pezzini, one of the detectives under his command. Joe feels responsible for Sara, and reluctantly has stepped into the father figure role that he believes she needs. However, sometimes it is better to believe a lie than have to live with the truth. Following this belief, Joe has chosen to keep some secrets from Sara concerning her father's death. He knows that one day she will discover the truth, and when that occurs, Joe's life may never be the same again.

PATRICK GLEASON
Detective Patrick Gleason is a 17-year veteran of the New York Police Department, starting as a beat cop and including a tour with the Mounted Patrol before being promoted to detective and earning his gold shield. His present assighment is as a Special Investigator with the Commissioner's Office at One Police Plaza.
New York born and bred, Gleason is a fourth-generation police officer, his family's service to the NYPD extending back to his great-grandfather. His brother, Sean, was lost in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. Gleason is single. His life is about to take an unexpected turn now that he's been thrust into Sara Pezzini's world.

I noticed that you updated the synopsis, but I am wondering why you left the character of Kenneth Irons in?
For those who are just beginning to collect past issues?
Is there any chance that he will return?
I was led to believe that the answer to this was a resounding NO!, but perhaps there is hope?
If not, perhaps the fact that he has passed on and no longer plays an active role in the comic should be included in the synopsis of his character.
Is there any chance that even though he will not be brought back from the dead, his spirit will be brought back into the storyline to affect or influence the other characters from beyond the grave?

I'd have to agree with this. Iron's is the best villan in the Witchblade series. And can never be replaced. He is not forgotten. I just stopped getting the Comics for awile now. ( try since the death of Ian and Irons ). I still don't hold Ian at fault. . . Shutting up now. The recent polt lines are just getting too damn weak. They gotta bring either one of our boys back. Namely Ian!! What can I say I'm a sucker for Ian. And Hrc, no I am not dead. I've just been lurking around in the dark for awhile now.

I agree with Lone and Lov. Kenneth Irons should be left in this bio because he was so influential in terms of character development in this series. He was the main antogonist in this book for such a long time and should be remembered as such.

Here is to Irons, and hoping they bring him back one day.

This is supposed to be the sypnosis of the entire series, so I've included all the major characters regardless of whether they're still alive or dead (such as Irons).

Also, I've updated Irons' profile to let the new readers know that he's dead.
