This book is just might be my favorite book Top Cow has produced thus far besides City of Heroes or Strykeforce or..... man, Top Cow puts out all kinds of good stuff. But this is already one of my favorite titles. The art is fantastic as always, I mean, Francis Manapul, come on now. But the story is I think very strong. I can't say enough about this book. I love how Abby started as a cheerleader and now is a totally different person. This is amazing. The characters look awesome, and this issue alone has me totally hooked. Great job to the whole creative team. Joshua, Francis, Kevin, Rob, Jay, Scott, Rick, Brian, Chaz and Troy. You've all done and got yourselves a fan for life. I loved all the little hidden goodies in the backgrounds also. I hope this book really takes off, because it is amazing. -Matt-
btw, I got Francis' cover, but because I love this book so much I might have to go get the others as well.. -------------------- http://darkworldonline.cjb.net
Be afraid....... Harry Callahan: I know what you're thinking: "Did he fire six shots, or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But, being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya punk? ![]() |

I really enjoyed the first issue. That demon prodding Abby into slashing her wrists was CREEPY as HELL! Locke seems like he's really going to steal the show in this title. His battle with the red demon was totally awesome! The way that he worked his spellcraft into the fight seemed-- well, NATURAL. That scene was really well written and well drawn, Joshua and Francis.
Aside from her appearance, I disagree that there was any change in Abby's character. What we saw of her in this first issue, while she narrated her own story, was that she was a snotty, self-centered cheerleader that broke the law and lied to her parents. All we saw of "present day" Abby was her contemplation of suicide. Beyond her new hair color(s) and her new fashion sense, I don't think that we got to see any difference in her behavior. A few things I didn't quite understand or have questions about: • If Abby attended a catholic high school, why weren't the students wearing uniforms? The sign about the entrance to the school did have the word "catholic" on it, right? I've never heard of a catholic high school that didn't require their students to wear uniforms. • You can just walk into a bookstore and buy an ancient spellbook? What kind of bookstore is this?! Overall, I really enjoyed this first issue, and I'm looking forward to reading more. Especially more about my main man, Locke! Tim -------------------- |

:^_^: The Catholic high school in the city I live in does NOT require the students to wear uniforms. :^_^: Still waiting for my copy of this book; hopefully will receive it Monday. -------------------- ![]() Remember these last words. Darkness: Thanks for the kind words on the first issue, and I'm glad you liked the changes that Abby goes through in the first issue...expect lots more character growth as the series progresses!
And thanks for the interest in picking up the other covers...they're pretty cool! Horn, Bachalo, and Manapul...man, did I score, or what?! :) Robotenchi: You're not the first person to make the BUFFY comparison, though it's funny, I've yet to see an episode of BUFFY or the movie! And yes, NECROMANCER is an ongoing series! Tim: Glad you enjoyed the book, and I agree, Berzelius is one creepy suicide-demon! And yes, you're right, Locke is certainly going to have some good opportunities to steal the show...and it's good to hear you enjoyed his magic and his use of the Mage's Tongue. My main goal is to make the magic feel natural and not at all corny! Caiko already answered the Catholic School question (thanks!), as for the spellbook question, that shop is no ordinary Barnes & Noble! It's Via Magica, a store that specializes in "books, incense, and psychic readings." They have other older, used books there, though it would take someone with Abby's gifts to make most of the spellbooks work! Thanks again to all for reading and posting, and I look forward to hearing what everyone else thinks of the first issue! -Joshua -------------------- Now Available: THE NECROMANCER: BOOK I

Hands down I loved it.
While violence and horriable death scenes are a staple of most other top cow books, what we see here in necromancer is alot more hardcore. Despite having a gaint red demon crushing and decapitating heads, its doesn't come off cartoonish at all. And the begining with Abby graphically ramming the glass shard into her wrist was something you'd rarley ever see outside of a garth ennis comic. The chatholic school/ uniform thing did confuse me at first too, but I went to catholic school and we had tag days twice a month where we paid a dollar and got to wear regular cloths. I figured it was something like that. The best part was the end when everything hit the crapper. When we saw the esemballed teens in the room about to study the magic book, I was almost certain that it would play out like some pathetic D&D fantasy, and the other teens would make up the supporting cast thruout the series. Kind of like the scoobie gang on buffy. But then a few crushed and decapitated heads latter, bye bye supporting cast. And I loved the little details, like the head flying into the fathers face. The diolugue was really good, so honest and so fitting " He never let up, no wonder I ended up so f---ed up". The art was great thruout, and it was an addictive read. Parts didn't even feel like a comic. Bottom line, I'll be buying every month. -------------------- |

Hellooooooooooooooooooooo Nurse!!!!
What a cool comic. Right from the first issue it just looks like it can take right off for the sky and beyond. It just seems to have alot of potential so I eagerly await the next issue. The demon (Berzelius) taunting Abby seems like one sinister and evil bastard, the kind of bad guy you love to hate but can't wait to see what they do next. I also eagerly await to see what else Locke has to offer. I hope we see more of him as he definately seems to be of some importance to the story. I've noticed two of the new Top Cow titles take place in school (Freshmen and now Necromancer) but I guess that should be obvious since I'm pretty sure the average age of those who read comics are in that age bracket. I'm 28, is that old for reading comics? It's hard for me to relate to the college campus aspect of Freshmen as I've only ever been to college on a part time basis one or two classes at a time at night after work. It's usually full of other people who are also full time workers and aren't in the 18-22 age group that you'd expect from most college students. It's been ten years now since I was in high school. My little sister could probably relate to Abby somewhat as she was Ms. Popular as well with a large assortment of "friends" though she was never a cheerleader. She was the walking definition of a "drama queen" as well (still is in some regards) but especially so in high school. As for myself, I was the exact opposite of Abby or my little sister. Take a walk with me down memory lane will you? :^_^: I was a bit of an outcast and fairly anti-social just like millions of other high school kids who aren't exactly on the top of the high school social system and I couldn't have cared less. It sucked in a way (no one likes to be excluded just because) but I wouldn't change the way I was one bit. I only had a small group of friends who were alot of fun to hang out with and the ones who haven't moved away, aren't dead or in jail I still hang with from time to time but we're mostly just old acquaintances now with our busy lives. I had heavy metal t-shirts for every day of the week and some worn out black jeans to go with them. I got along with most of my teachers just fine and got above average grades. I wasn't given a car for my 16th birthday and one of the reasons I joined the military was to earn college money. As for all the popularity contest crap that goes on in high school, I was actually glad I didn't have to put up with all the drama of being Mr./Ms. Popular that my sister went through (something she hates now as she can't stand most of her former "friends"). However, for me anyways, high school was just a stepping stone, an obstacle to overcome so that way I could join the Navy, something I wanted to do since Junior High School. Anyways, the short version of Yakko's school life is now concluded.   I've always loved the little Top Cow bits thrown in Top Cow comics. One of the kids has a bike that says. "Moo... Cycles." and his hat has the Top Cow globe on it. Then they're in some sort of diner or something and in the background there's a poster that says, "Got Moo?" and in the foreground there a Wizard magazine with Superman! I'm sure there were more but those are the ones I caught. So, I really like how this new comic has started and I can't wait for #2. -------------------- ![]() |
