Bekmambetov Prepares Wanted 2

Source:RIA Novosti, Russia InfoCentre June 13, 2009

Russian newsite RIA Novosti had a chance to talk to that country's biggest filmmaker Timur Bekmabetov recently, and he told them that he has started preparations on making the sequel to the 2008 summer hit Wanted and that they've found a way to bring Angelina Jolie's character back.

Talking about the tentatively-titled Wanted 2, Bekmambetov told them, "In July we will start preparation for the film. I think in the late autumn or winter shooting will be performed. The shooting will take place in America, India and Russia."

Besides Jolie's character, Fox, Bekmambetov hopes to bring back the character played by Kostya Khabenskiy, who also starred in Bekmambetov's breakout films Night Watch and Day Watch, as well as introducing new characters. The sequel reportedly has a $150 million budget, which is the biggest Hollywood production made by a Russian filmmaker, and Bekmambetov will once again have Russian crew involved in all aspects of production.

(Thanks to the English language site Russian InfoCentre for the translation.)

i don't see what they can do unless it's a prequel, but i'll give it a chance.

Yah, but that blows the story. It should continue on. And writers usually come through. I expect some off the wall special effects though.

It's my understanding that this project is now officially dead in the water. Probably for the best. How do you bring back a character that blew her own brains out?

From Enews

Angelina Jolie has pulled out of the "Wanted 2" project to peruse Alfonso Cuarón's space thriller titled "Gravity".

According to Vulture, Jolie will play the sole surviving human member of a space mission, desperately trying to return home to Earth. The thriller is written by Cuarón's 28-year-old son, Jonás.

The project was originally set up at Universal with Jolie attached but the studio put the project in turnaround, and it landed at Warner Bros with producer David Heyman and Legendary Pictures.

**Update**

Earlier we reported that Angelina Jolie has pulled out of the "Wanted 2" project to peruse Alfonso Cuarón's space thriller titled "Gravity".

But now it seems the report on Gravity may have been premature, and that Jolie isn’t doing the film after all. EW reports that Jolie’s reps say the actress passed on doing Gravity at Warner Bros. The site says that it cannot confirm whether or not the film is even really set up at WB right now.

There's now an article on the front of the Top Cow website talking about how they plan on doing the movie even without Angelina Jolie.

Angelina Jolie on Why She Left Wanted 2

Source:Edward Douglas

July 10, 2010

Earlier today at the junket for the Sony Pictures conspiracy action-thriller Salt, ComingSoon.net had a chance to speak with actress Angelina Jolie, and we were curious on her reasons for leaving Wanted 2 despite the filmmakers trying to figure out a way to bring her character Fox back. (SPOILER: If you haven't seen the movie yet, you may want to stop reading here.)

"Being dead makes it difficult," she confirmed. "They were (trying to bring me back) but I kind of feel like if I die in a movie, I should die actually. I'm that way, and that character is not as complex as Salt. It would just be doing the exact same thing in another movie, so it's not that interesting to me."

Was Jolie sexy as hell in Wanted? Yup. But she is not the main character, and her character died so why are they trying to bring her back?? Yeah I know she was the big star in the movie, but Wanted 2 can happen without her. There are other actresses who are younger than Jolie (still sexy by the way) who can add to the story and can still be a big draw at the box office. And no not Megan Fox...
