So flipping busy with the day job (teacher) lately that I haven't had time to do much at all, so when boysicat posted the inks on his deviantart.com gallery to this I grabbed it and knocked up some colours. Sometimes I ask myself why I don't colour witchblade more often, then I get to the witchblade arm stuff and remember why not... it takes ages!

pencils by David Finch

That's not best Finch drawing in the world but as always I do like your colouring! :)

Honestly this is a huge step back Sean. it looks like you didn't even try or pay attention to what you were doing.

The first thing I notice is the lighting and shading. Specifically the purple shadow on the top of her breast. That doesn't make any sense. Even if there wasn't an apparent light source coming from her hand. The purple tone doesn't fit, nor should there even be a shadow there.

The modeling on the skin needs a good deal of work. You should take some time and learn what the structure of the face is. The planes, muscles, and shapes. With a pencil, spend some time doing life drawing. And do it with strong lighting conditions.
The rim lighting is extremely inconsistent.

You have this really strong bluelight hitting her butt, presumably coming from her hand? but its not angled from there, and despite the fact skin is far more reflective then cotton, her skin isn't showing any light coming from there on her backside.

Rendering the creases in her shirt and sweatpants at the knees would help a bit.

all valid points - and like I said, I've been flat out at work with rend of term assignments and report marking so yeah, I wasn't concentrating 100% here I'll make the changes in a day or so

but what about the light on her hair???? - how the heck can I get the light from her power hand to reflect/show up decently on her hair?! (I know you must have read my GZ thread as well) That's the bit that's bugging me.

cheers

Still better than 95% Sean,

Just a note on the hair...
There's nothing wrong with using the blue white of the glow to color the hair on that front side,
just make sure that the shadow that would be cast by the couple of strands on her face and across her chest are dark
as you've done near her hairline.
Also the hair that would be hit by the light on the far side is highlighted; a lighter tone, but an almost grayed out look
since the blue is the compliment to the orange. That I think would give some unification to the purple you've laid over her breast.
As noted, the purple on the top of the front breast is too saturated, needs to be much lighter but the actual color does make sense
with the blue into the orange. I know that the dark there brings out the lighting effect, and its not a bad choice, it's just not consistent
w/ Finch's shading.

As always, you pick great stuff to work on...
Take care,
BJ

And really good job man. Although I have a nit pick the lower crystal jewel on her guantlet is suposed to be blue.
