Witchblade is a comic book series published by Top Cow Productions, which ran from November 1995 to October 2015 and December 2017 to January 2020. The series was created by Marc Silvestri, David Wohl, Brian Haberlin, and Michael Turner. The comic series was made into a TNT television series in 2001 and was directed by Ralph Hemecher and starred Yancy Butler as Sara Pezzini. Later, Top Cow and Japanese animation studio Gonzo produced an anime adaptation of Witchblade, which debuted in 2006.

Marguerite Bennett, who has been focused on writing for the upcoming Butterfly TV Series and Ark: The Animated Series, says, “The ability to tell a ferocious story full of monsters, sexuality, vision, and history was irresistible.” She adds, “Our saga is sleek, vicious, ferocious, and has a lot to say about power in the 21st century and will be the first time that we are stopping the roller coaster to let more people on. I’ve loved Witchblade since I was a child, and there is truly no other heroine like Sara with such an iconic legacy and such a rich, brutal relationship to her own body.” 

In Witchblade #1, New York City Police Detective Sara Pezzini’s life was forever fractured by her father’s murder. Cold, cunning, and hellbent on revenge, Sara now stalks a vicious criminal cabal beneath the city, where an ancient power collides and transforms her into something wild, magnificent, and beyond her darkest imaginings. How will Sara use this ancient power, or will she be consumed by it?

Through last year’s Witchblade Complete Collection Kickstarter, the world received a glimpse of Marc Silvestri’s Witchblade Armor redesign. But, a whole new universe has been created by Giuseppe Cafaro, who states, “The Witchblade universe is being modernized to reflect how Marguerite beautifully explores the extreme sides of Sara through memories, her personal thoughts, like desire and hunger, in her solitude and when she is possessed by the Witchblade. So, I had to visually intersect a noir True Detective-like world with a supernatural, horror world that is a fantastic mix between Berserk and Zodiac!”

Ryan Cady is a writer of comics and horror fiction based in Southern California. A graduate of the DC Comics Talent Development Workshop, he has written for such properties as The Punisher, Venom, The X-Files, and more, with his first creator-owned series – Infinite Dark, from Image Comics / Top Cow Productions. More recently Cady has released comics such as Haunt You To The End and Destiny Gate.

 

Andrea Mutti is an Italian comic book artist. After obtaining his degree in geometry, Mutti attended the Comics School in Brescia, led by Ruben Sosa. He began his career illustrating the superheroes comic DNAction for Xenia Edizioni. He then illustrated horror comics for Fenix. Andrea moved over to Star Comics, where he drew stories for Lazarus Ledd and some episodes of Hammer. Since then he’s worked with DC, Vertigo, Marvel, Mad Cave Studios, Dark Horse and IDW Publishing.

 

More recently Mutti released A Legacy of Violence, Charred Remains and Haunt You To The End (along with Cady). He has a new Star Wars graphic novel coming out in Summer 2024.

Los Angeles CA – July 22nd, 2023 – Syphon, a supernatural noir comic and 2022 Ringo Award Winner, is releasing its second volume with Top Cow Productions this November. Creator and writer Mohsen Ashraf continues the series in a new four-issue story, joined by co-writer Arish Akanda and new artist Thomas Hedglen.

Syphon Volume 2 follows “supernatural empath” Sylas, wielder of an ancient power to sense and siphon away pain from others, as he struggles to navigate his purpose and the moral ambiguity of his newfound power. He is joined by Livia, a scientist and trauma researcher exploring the fringe of the Syphon-verse.

The series unveils new characters and settings, including a Syphon temple lost in the Amazon – brimming with deep lore of the power – and a long-forgotten threat reawakened. Ashraf describes Volume II as a “Temple of Doom style psychedelic thriller delving into the depths of mental health.”

“I’m very excited to continue the story of Sylas and Livia in Syphon Volume 2. We’re able to explore more of the power, get deeper with the main characters, and start to ask the tough questions: What is the purpose of pain? What is the right way to heal from it? Is there a right way at all?” Ashraf says of his latest volume.
